About Total Precision
Total Precision is an established UK manufacturing company built on decades of engineering knowledge, strong customer relationships and a determination to keep moving forward.
Precision Manufacturing Built on Strong Foundations
The manufacturing experience behind Total Precision stretches back more than 30 years, with roots in specialist thermoplastic engineering, precision metal components and integrated production. This heritage has created a deep understanding of materials, tooling, machinery and the practical demands of reliable, repeatable manufacturing.

That knowledge supports projects ranging from individual components to complex assemblies and complete production solutions. By combining skilled people, connected capabilities and practical problem solving, Total Precision provides the technical expertise and dependable service its customers require.
Established in 2013
Total Precision Limited was established by Andy Tomlinson and Jez Tanner following the planned closure of Autosplice’s UK operation. They acquired machinery and equipment from the former business, retained important manufacturing capability and created a strong platform from which Total Precision could develop.
Returning to Ilkeston and Building for the Future
In 2014, the company returned to its original manufacturing location in Ilkeston. From there, Andy, who still consults for the company, and Jez continued developing its capabilities, workforce and long-standing customer relationships across plastic injection moulding, precision metal pressing, overmoulding and assembly - building the experienced and established manufacturing business that exists today.
Meet Tim Major
Engineering Experience. Entrepreneurial Drive. A Personal Approach.

Tim Major and his wife, Gill, acquired Total Precision in April 2026, beginning an exciting new chapter for an established British manufacturing business.

Tim is quick to recognise the strong foundations created by former owners Andy Tomlinson and Jez Tanner. His ambition is to build upon their work – protecting the company’s knowledge, skilled workforce and longstanding customer relationships while modernising the business, expanding its capabilities and introducing Total Precision to new markets.

Tim brings around 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, including six years working offshore and extensive experience across refineries and large fuel-storage depots. His career involved major projects across government, military and commercial sectors, covering project delivery, installation, commissioning, testing and training – experience that developed a strong understanding of complex engineering environments where quality, safety and reliability are essential.

Later in his career, Tim moved into food manufacturing, further broadening his experience within production and manufacturing. That progression ultimately led to the purchase of Total Precision and the next chapter of his career in British manufacturing.

Engineering Knowledge. Commercial Vision.
That breadth of experience has shaped Tim’s approach to Total Precision. He understands engineering from the ground up, but he also sees the wider commercial picture: how people, processes, suppliers and technical expertise must work together to deliver the right result for every customer.
He believes the company’s greatest strength lies not only in its precision manufacturing capabilities, but in its ability to listen, solve problems and provide a complete solution.

Tim regards the Total Precision workforce as an extension of the family. He believes that when people feel respected, supported and valued, they take greater pride in their work and provide a better service to customers.
Family Values.
People First.
Personal Leadership.
Tim and Gill are proud parents to a combined family of five daughters, and family is at the heart of his life. Those values strongly influence the way he leads the business. He describes himself as approachable, easy to talk to and always willing to answer questions – qualities he wants customers, suppliers and employees to experience whenever they work with Total Precision.

Gill is an important part of this new chapter. With a business degree and a career spanning police family liaison, education and local-authority support, she brings considerable people-focused experience. She is Tim’s trusted sounding board, a regular presence within the company and is expected to take an increasingly active role in employee support, HR and customer relationships.
Building for the Future
Tim’s vision is to protect everything that has made Total Precision successful while preparing the company for its next stage of growth. That means preserving its skilled workforce, technical knowledge and longstanding customer relationships while continuing to modernise the business, strengthen its capabilities and introduce its complete manufacturing service to new markets.

He wants Total Precision to remain a business where customers receive honest advice, practical answers and the confidence that their project is in experienced hands. Just as importantly, he wants employees to feel respected, supported and proud to play a part in the company’s future.

For Tim, success is not simply about growing the business. It is about building on strong foundations, bringing people together and ensuring that every challenge is met with engineering experience, commercial understanding and genuine personal commitment.
